Wizards Retreat
Once upon a time in a lush green land of rain forest and blue seas, there lived a group of esteemed wise people who met to expand their knowledge. They met in the ruins of an old sorcerer’s castle and were known as the wizards of MayaWest
I was one of the chosen to attend these meeting hoping to learn spells that would turn my students into perky green frogs; however, I learned the power of words. I expected to be lectured to by the renowned oracle of the abysses, but it wasn’t like that.
When I entered the chamber of learning, I saw my fellow wizards convening in a circle around a table. With wizards from across the land attending the meeting, the language was a mix of basic and span-basic; an obstacle to overcome, yet another learning opportunity. I quickly learned that we would be training each other. Ah, a chance to see the mysterious workings of other wizards. As the rains came and we continued to share our knowledge through the reading of manuscripts and the spells of wizards, I learned that writing was always a work in progress. I learned that writing was power that would give my apprentices the magic to express themselves. I was not the almighty head wizard; rather, I was merely a coach.
When the final day came and the air controller wizard finally remembered the spell for cool air, we shared our thoughts about the MayaWest retreat. I felt a warm, fuzzy feeling for my fellow wizards and wished for them the stars’ brightness.
As the sands in the hour glass shift to the bottom, this newfound knowledge, the pebbles of wisdom, will shadow me to my caves near the ocean. I will bear the strong words that will motivate my apprentices the will to write. I will take to my apprentices my enthusiasm for writing. But mostly, I will share with my apprentices the knowledge that what they write counts. Their words can collapse kingdoms, build bridges, and reach the heavens. The MayaWest odyssey will remain with me forever and I will often look in my crystal ball to read the words of my fellow wizards.
